Help your dog look lovely and feel comfortable in an outfit chosen just for them.
When choosing dog clothes, finding the right size is just as important as choosing the design.
Sizes such as S and M can vary between brands and products. Rather than relying on breed or weight alone, measure your dog and compare the measurements with the size chart for the item you would like to purchase.
Here is how to measure your dog’s neck, chest and back, along with a few helpful tips for choosing the right fit.
■ Before you measure
Prepare a soft measuring tape and have your dog stand naturally on all four paws.
Make sure the tape is not twisted, and gently follow the contours of the body without pulling it tight. Keeping a note of the date and measurements will also be helpful when shopping.
If your dog seems uncomfortable, take a break and measure a little at a time when they are calm.
■ ① Neck circumference
Measure around the base of your dog’s neck.
For dogs with thick coats, check where the body sits beneath the fur rather than measuring only around the outer coat. If the product’s measuring instructions specify a different position because of its collar or design, follow those instructions.
■ ② Chest circumference
Measure around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.
Keep the tape level and avoid tightening it around the chest. Chest circumference is an important measurement when checking comfort and freedom of movement.
■ ③ Back length
Measure along the back from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.
Check this measurement while your dog is standing naturally, as sitting or curling up can change the length. Where the garment’s hem falls will depend on its design.
■ How to read the size chart
First, check whether the chart shows your dog’s body measurements or the finished garment measurements.
If it shows body measurements, compare your dog’s measurements according to the instructions provided. If it shows finished garment measurements, you will also need to consider room for a comfortable fit.
The amount of room needed depends on the fabric’s stretch and thickness, the lining and the shape of the garment. Rather than adding a fixed number of centimetres to every measurement, please refer to the guidance for each product.
■ If you are between sizes
Your dog’s neck, chest and back measurements may not all correspond to the same size.
Choosing a larger size does not always guarantee a better fit. If the neckline or armholes are too loose, the garment may slip off or a paw may become caught.
If you are unsure which size to choose, please contact us before purchasing.
Please include the following information: ・Product name ・Dog’s breed ・Neck circumference ・Chest circumference ・Back length ・Weight, for reference
■ Check the fit after dressing
Once your dog is wearing the garment, check that it is not tight around the neck, chest or the tops of the front legs, and that your dog can walk and sit naturally.
Also check that the hem does not interfere with toileting and that paws cannot become caught in sleeves or decorative details. If your dog shows signs of discomfort, do not make them continue wearing it.
